Cyber-Swagger
April 17th 2007 12:37
Swagger is defined by various sources as being with arrogance, self importance, domineering, a braggart, full of bluster, and ostentation. In contemporary terms, George Bush is often described as strutting with swagger to and from the podium for his various speeches and propoganda announcements.
Here in the world of the Blog, as well as elsewhere on the internet, there is plenty of opportunity to express oneself in a way that could only be described as 'with swagger'. Either individually or collectively. The latter, in many forms, would take on some characteristics not dissimilar from certain elements of gang-type behavior and actions.
In writings elsewhere, I describe how pleasantly surprised I have become that it seems that many will utilize cyber-communications as a natural extension of
who it is they are or becoming. In that article it is also suggested that some likely use this and other blogs as a way of creating something they wish they could be.
So, for some, the internet provides an extension of their already juvenile swagger, while for others it provides a venue to pretend that they have a bit of the faux-swagger. The stuff that 'empowers' them to sling profanities and other such slurrish verbage towards others with whom they disagree.
Ah yes, to communicate effectively.
I have, in my travels through time, through-out the world, and through cyber-space, learned some things. I have found that swagger, for instance, is always faux. Such psuedo-bravado and machismo is ALWAYS a compensation for something that is lacking in the person expressing such. Sad, really, that individuals need this facade to build themselves up.
Yet, we all carry on.
And, when one finds that they no longer need swagger to define who it is they are, and are thusly able to communicate beyond the level of a juvenile, a more meaningful and valuable empowerment evolves. Such is growth.
Yes. Such is growth...

...an interesting article and one in which I agree and I don't speak as someone who believes she has managed to communicate effectively, at all ... *lol*
This is so true and what I think makes it so powerful a medium (and hobby). I have never been one to want to 'get to the end' of who I am. I think that people who think they have 'made it' there... begin the swaggering stage as part of that belief?
I don't know... I'm still on the road myself ...
