The $1.50 Overcharge
October 28th 2006 13:24
I overheard a telephone conversation. The fellow I could hear was contesting a $1.50 charge on his bank statement. It was clearly the result of what the bank thought was the use of an ATM that was not theirs. The fellow was relentless in letting them know that he had not used any but his banks' ATM.
I initially thought to myself that this guy was getting all worked up over a mere $1.50, But as he continued, I began to marvel at his persistence. He had, apparently, been overcharged before and was being driven by principle at this point.
He seemed to be speaking to a brick wall, yet he would not give up. I decided that he would be my inspirational life lesson of the day.
How many times, out of laziness, have I disregarded seeminly petty grievances because "it just ain't worth it"? How has this accumulated, financially and emotionally, over the years. What if, like the guy on the phone, I had put my foot down even half the time with little irritations and injustices?
Hmmm.
WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE PETTY GRIEVANCES?
