Simplicity, Psychobabble, et Moi

July 26th 2007 16:36
In my work with people and their various processes, communication is key. The capacity to put it out there as well as recieve. With or without nuance, and either in simplicity or psychobabble.

“I can help you” means so much more to someone rather than going into a long and extended diatribe of my accomplishments, talents, and background. Unless, of course, I frame it in a way that is directly relative to that persons’ reality.

I can help individuals identify who they are. I can help individuals identify where they are going. I can help individuals identify what is in the way, and I can help them identify how to move through and/or beyond those identified barriers.

Or, if need be, I can go into the psychogenesis of the underlying condition as expressed symptomatically. If, indeed, that is how somebody wishes to speak. I can do psychobabble. Oh, yea.

If given my choice, though, I would choose the option or luxury of simplicity. Now that’s quite a statement. When simplicity becomes a luxury.

Tecnobabble is just as bad.
Use big words to impress themselves and their peers.
Communication was meant to be easier than that.
and
Never ask a gynochologist how they are feeling?

I think that too many people hide behind jargon and psychobabble. Sometimes it's actually harder to speak in plain english that the person you're trying to help can understand!!

ah the joys of industry lingo! law i have found to be extremely horrible and with latin thrown into the mix it makes even those in the know scratch their heads in confusion.

ever read judgements? all judges are terrible and it is scary because the law permeates through almost every aspect and relationship in our society with many in the public having to access the legal system. yet, legal practitioners makes law virtually unaccessible to people.

Very much so, Damo. I actually turn my ears off when I hear too much technobabble. I could probably learn something if I didn't do that.

Plain talk. What a concept, Kylie. Perhaps if we all practice it, it will become easier.

Even the gynocologists!

Lealese is quite something, Stanley. Add to that the 5 minutes (at best) of legal fame most defendants get, and many don't know what the heck just happened.

technobabble is hard to break through, since it relies on a lot of acronyms...

Oho, Cibby..not to mention textbabble!

Personally, I find all types of babble to be tedious and annoying. I used to think everyone did, but that can't be the case...
