It's About Simplicity, Dammit!!

November 12th 2006 13:50
I become irritated when this thing called life makes me get serious. As if there are things more important than kicking it, having a good time, laughing, and the like. That's my default--ease.

Yet, there are these other things in the soup. Money, sickness, politics, religion, meaning of life, hatred, laws, and all other things that interrupt the easy-going way of being. I really don't have time for all that. I mean really, what's the point?

Have we progressed, as a species, to the point where life has to be so difficult? So full of fraught and stress and pressure and strain and not enough time and conflict? Again, what is the point.

Why would enjoyment and satisfaction be so elusive? Why would a culture be organized such that 'kicking it' is at times even seen as pathological?

Perhaps I would do better as a cave man. My job would be to find food and protect family. Period. The rest would be to 'kick it'. Be. Bask in my aliveness. No complexity in the name of making life easier. Simplicity.

Simplicity.

Do you long for Simplicity?

I do long for it...

If I were a single girl without children, I would live a very boho life, basking in my neverending days, writing, making love, enjoying the simple joy of being alive. Instead, I work a full time job and go to school full time so that at the end of it, I will have a piece of paper to enable me to make more money to pay off the massive debt I accumulated to make more money.

My anthropologist friends tell me that "primitive" hunter-gatherer societies have significantly more leisure hours than Western societies, so maybe being a caveman is the way to go.

I understand that modern demands make it difficult to relax and simplify. That does not mean we are not doing our bodies and minds some significant/potential damage.

Perhaps cave men and women would be the way to go. Perhaps after Armegeddon?

Couldn't agree more, Cathy. Perhaps more should take on that mantra, and the world will be a happier place.

Just the other day, I commented to my mom and sister that me, my husband, and son all took a nap together in bed. I was was trying to tell them how wonderful and cute it was to see my two men snuggling, but they just couldn't get past the nap part. They kept saying "Oh God! I could NEVER take a nap, I'm always worried about what I need to be doing. Yet they pay money to take yoga classes so they can feel relaxed. Somehow, yoga to them is more acceptable than taking a freaking nap.

I like naps, so sue me. They're also free.

Thanks for the example, Sandi. A nap, rest, or some form of 'downtime' is essential to mind-body health and well being.

There is simplicity,
.. in every complexity ...

those created by nature
...just breathe and look..
you will see it,

there on the edge of vision
relax, it resides in a deep breathe...
give yourself a minute...
....there....
... between the ...in...
...breath...
and the ...out ...
....breath...

..concealed between worlds...
shimmering, it awaits you...
just slip into the lightness...
there, inbetween...
let all else go,
for just a moment...
... all else ....
...vanishing...

breathe it in deeply,
now, what was it,
you had to do...?

Very nice, Lilla. It sounds a bit like a eally good induction into hypnosis, or at least, deep relaxation.

We seem to build sucy complex mountains out of seemingly simple molehills.
