Stress, And All That That Entails

March 30th 2007 16:07
I consider myself an ambassador for Stress Wellness and Stress Management. I have discovered that, while most people acknowledge that stress in general is a big problem, few will decide to take steps in their world to begin adopting approaches and strategies that will empower them to effectively manage the stress of life.

There are so many consequences of mis-managed stress, and so many ways to effectively manage the stress that fetters many and reduces unique thriving capacity. I urge and welcome dialogue on what consequences others have experienced as a result of mis-managed stress. Also, share what has worked.

A better question at the moment might be how hasn't it?

If anyone has any tips on how to manages stress while attempting to understand reference writing for university assignments these days, then please let me in on the secret.

At the moment, working out the references is more stressful than the actual assessment, and believe me, that has been stressful enough!

Well I'm off for a migraine tablet! ; )

Oh my, I remember that kind of writing. I feel for you, MelissaA. I just had to walk away for periods of time, remind myself of what it was I was doing, then return refreshed.

Deorre,

MelissaA, bought back some awful memories then .... brrrr... the stress of university

*shivers*

Good Luck 'M' ... know that the light at the end of the tunnel is not a train!

As I passed the 40 mark in life, I discoverd that managing stress is all that matters to me, so this is an interesting post D...

Stress is the killer, do whatever you have to do, to stop it, that's my religion ... I'm lucky because I don't need all the trappings of the modern world to be happy, but for those who want their cake and want to eat it too... well, ....that's .....stress...*chuckle*

What hasn't worked well for me is yelling at everyone in my family when I am stressed (was doing Uni too, then job, raising two children - one disabled, fighting my own illness etc).

What I found effective was to stop thinking I was a victim at the mercy of some external God and took charge of my own life as the real gift from God. No one was making me shout, work, yell, scream, panic, suffer... that was me. So I learned to take responsibility for my life.

I finished Uni (uncomplaining as it was my choice to be there - what was making me angry was that I was doing it to please family, not me)...
I downsized my house and left my horrible job - dumped the mortgage.
At 40, I tailored my life to suit ME... a happier me.

I am very careful what I commit to now and how much time I give to it, and for what rewards. I have learnt to always question my "intention" before committing.

Management is a good word Deorre, becuase life is about that. To me now, if a person is really stressed out, they are overcommitted and guess what? It's THEIR CHOICE to be that way and the sooner people realise this, the better.

Of course I have to say this, but I blame TV ...*lol*

Simply put, I have learned that you cannot have your cake and eat it too...so I stopped trying to achieve the impossible dream.

Lilla ...

Management is a crucial word. And before one can effectively manage, one must accrue a bit of self awareness. That's a formula I each often: Self Awareness leads to Self Management. Of course, that will include stress.

Thanks for the comment, Lilla.

I remember it was always bad, but now with the invention of the internet and web site and web page referencing etc, it's even worse than it used to be.

Thanks for commenting on it though guys, it's nice to know others have experienced the same thing. Deorre, walking away from it is definitely the best advice, although sometimes that just happens naturally out of frustration.
