Just A Jester In The Serious Soup Of Life

October 21st 2006 11:35
Even I acknowledge that I don't take things seriously. At least not all the time. I'm a clown and a jester. Always have been, always will be.

My analyst would likely tell me I am running from the darkness within, and it may very well be. Or my 'life coach' might tell me I am running from something out there in the world. That may very well be true.

And, while my entourage of assistants and personal helpers, gurus, and hangers'-on probe their minds to determine the etiology of my default humor guerilla frame of mind, I just keep on being inane and nonsensical.

Perhaps I am the puer, the proverbial youth whose energy is eternal and alive within every psyche that ever was a young child. Or perhaps, I just get sick and tired of all the bad joo joo out there.

Why I jest?

Because the toxicity in the air is so cloying and destructive that even wars are 'spun' this way and that, and meanwhile friends and kids of friends are dying.

Because there is so much financial angst pervading the culture that the divide between 'haves' and 'have nots' gets larger and larger.

Because medical health care is increasingly out of reach for so many people that a financial survival of the fittest may very well become a new anthropological phenomenon.

Because individuals hate in the name of their proclaimed deity, yet try their damndest to bring those unfortunate souls who disagree with them into the 'right' fold.

Because you can walk down main street USA at times, on a crowded sidewalk, and never even establish eye contact with one individual passing by.

Because there is such busy-ness that people have lost sight of what it is to relax and just 'kick it'.

Why I Jest?

Because it's fun, and I like to poke holes in stuck thought. Satire and irony often function that way. Make people laugh, and then think. You know?

So, I may be that puer that Jung describes as the eternal child. But I am also, and will always be, a HUMOR GUERILLA

hmm interesting analysis there - i too use humour in every situation and am sometimes tactless with the timing. i have never delved into a deep psychological reading as to why i do this but perhaps my ex gf's will illuminate how utterly frustrating it was to deal with my humour during the most trying of times.

My humor has gotten me into all kinds of trouble--with girlfriends, on the job, and even on the basketball court.

I have tamed my inaneness some.
